Artist's Color Guide for Kaleidoscope® Vitreous Glass Mosaic Tile

Cyan Blues

These are the turquoise blues, the baby blues. Note that dark cyan does not photograph well. For example, the pictures don't show the intense turquoise colors of Fiji and Tahiti.

These tiles have a similar hue to phthalocyanine blue single-pigment artist's paint and the different tints that could be made by adding increasing amounts of white pigment.

Ultramarine Blues

These are the periwinkle blues, the French blues, the cobalt blues. Note that they are not purple, although some monitors render the light Ultramarines as having a slight purple tint, which is not correct.

These tiles have a hue similar to Ultramarine Blue single-pigment artist's paint and the different tints that could be made by adding increasing amounts of white pigment.

Pewter Blues

These are the pewter blues, the different tints of Prussian blue. They are more muted and less intense than the other blues, which means they may work better for more naturalistic blues and for adding depth and shading to a more intense blue.

These tiles have a hue similar to Prussian Blue artist's paint and the different tints that could be made by adding increasing amounts of white pigment.

Blue Greens and Blue Grays

These are the muted-teals, muted mints and muted blue-greens grays. This is a low-intensity color family.

These tiles have similar hues as those of phthalo blue-green paint on one end and grays of Prussian blue at the other.

Greens, Forest Greens and Sages

Green tiles have hues similar to mixing phthalocyanine blue with cadmium yellow in single-pigment artist's paint.

Forest green and sage green tiles have hues similar to mixing ultramarine blue with cadmium yellow in single-pigment artist's paint.

Browns

It's a good thing that the browns available in vitreous photograph fairly well because it would not be easy to describe some of these in terms of mixtures of siennas and umbers.
