Tile McGee Glass Mosaic Coaster can be used as coasters or personalized accents in tilework. Tile McGee is a 4" glass tile with a rim around the edge that allows you to make a mosaic on the face of the tile. The recessed area is approximately 1/8" deep, which allows you to use vitreous glass tile and materials of similar thickness in your mosaic and still have a flush finish. BEST OF ALL, the tile is 4" square, the size of common ceramic bathroom tile. This means that you can make your own mosaic for mounting as a personalized accent in architectural applications such as showers and backsplashes. The Tile McGees might be slightly thicker than ceramic bathroom tile, but Tile McGees have a rim that boarders the mosaic and helps minimize the potential for exposed sharp edges. Tile McGees are made from some of the most indestructible glass on the market, the same glass used in oven windows. The color of the glass is smoky translucent with a slightly iridized finish. The manufacturer recommends epoxy adhesive for coaster tiles used in showers and other mosaics subject to moisture, but thinset concrete should work well if you are more accustomed to using that. AS ALWAYS, you should adhere tiles flatly to ensure that sharp edges are not exposed and inspect for problems after grouting, as with any mosaic. The 3/8" vitreous glass mosaic tile should work very well in these for a variety of designs. Note that this product is only the coaster itself and does not include any small tile for use in the coaster.
