Our mounting paper for mosaic tile is the thin brown paper used for the INDIRECT METHOD of mounting glass mosaic tile. The paper is approximately 12.5 inches x 12.5 inches and is the same paper commonly used by factories to mount sheets of 225 vitreous glass mosaic tiles in a uniform grid of 15 tiles x 15 tiles with a 1/16 inch gap between each tile. The plastic mounting grid we sell was made for use with the paper. The indirect method can be more complicated than using the direct method of gluing tiles directly on the surface one at a time. For that reason we recommend the paper-free direct method for beginners. However, the INDIRECT METHOD using the paper can make it easier and faster to put a uniform grid of tile on a wall or floor. It is done as follows: 1) Glass mosaic tile are glued FACE-DOWN on the paper using diluted Weldbond adhesive (3 parts water to 1 part Weldbond). Use a light coat to avoid wrinkling the paper. 2) Allow the paper to dry 24 hours. 3) Apply adhesive or tile mastic to the wall. 4) Press tiles onto the glue-covered wall with the PAPER ON THE OUTSIDE. 5) Allow the tile mastic to cure for 24 hours. 6) Mist the paper until it is soaked and peel it off the tiles. 7) Grout the mosaic.
