Mosaic Art
Brittany, France
www.mosaiqueatelier.com/english.default.htm
The workshop is equipped with all the necessary tools and equipment,
with a large choice of mosaic tesserae in a multitude of colours and
types of material. You progress by listening to the materials which are
destined to become the work of art. It is a conversation between four
actors: you, the teacher, the project and the material, mediated by
hands and tools. Each one imposes its own constraints. The pleasure
comes from satisfying the different partners.

Students in this course learn the Direct Method on provisional putty
(Roman mosaic) in which they insert the 'Tesserae' in the clay. They
learn also the Byzantinemosaic, the Direct Method in which they set
the glass'Tesserae' directly in the lime cement. Another technique
taught is this Indirect Method (upside down on paper), in which the
pupils glue the 'Tesserae' face down on paper. During the Master they
create a mosaic tile (approximately 30x30 cm) in Roman mosaic with
polychrome marble, with the Direct Method on provisional putty. They
also create a Byzantine glass mosaic of the same measurements with
the Direct Method.
