Ribbon Stone glass mosaic tile are a type of glass gem, only much larger, more colorful and more pigment dense than ordinary gems. That is because the glass used to make the Ribbon Stones is a much higher quality glass than what is typically used in gems. Ribbon Stones are a type of "end-of-day glass," which is a term used to describe swirled or mottled glass left over from a daily manufacturing process and typically used to make decorative items that can tolerate or even benefit from curious variations in the glass. Consequently, Ribbon Stones have all sorts of swirls and rich color like premium stained glass.

Ribbon Stones are not certified as a building material, and thus artists should avoid using them in commercial flooring, etc., but they are some of the most impressive looking glass mosaic tile we sell and can be used in wall murals and other places not subjected to foot traffic or impact. We recommend using them in accents in mixed-media mosaic art projects instead of as a materials for bulk area coverage.
