Mosaic Table

Why mosaic on metal patio furniture when you can mosaic on solid hardwood furniture made for the indoors? This round occasional table is crafted in Mission style from tropical Parawood, which is extremely hard wood from rubber trees grown on plantations in Malaysia. Once a tree ages and starts producing less latex, the tree is harvested and replaced, so the environmental impact isn't as severe as using wood cut from forests. At any rate, the wood stains beautifully. I have stained several pieces in a dark mahogany and seen many pieces stained in light blond colors. The tables ship unstained and UNASSEMBLED, but come with instructions and can be put together with a screwdriver. Please email us any questions or concerns you have BEFORE you order. We can't take returns. These tables don't come with a lip or rim, but I always make a border using ceramic tiles or 5/8" mosaic stone as in the following picture:

You should use the following procedure to prepare the table for mosaicing:
1. Assemble the table.
2. Stain everything but the top surface.
3. Seal everything but the top surface with wood sealer from the hardware store. We used MinWax Poly.
4. Seal the top with a coating of Weldbond glue and let that dry.
5. Start mosaicing!

A mosaic table is an ideal first project for the beginner. The top is about 415 square inches of surface, so you should be able to cover the surface with 700 of the 3/4" glass mosaic tiles, allowing some left over. One 8 oz Weldbond and one 2lb container of grout should be sufficient for making a mosaic table of this size.
